Alexandra Paliwoda is the Backcountry Blacksmith
In the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Alexandra Paliwoda is far from a typical Ocean River Institute supporter. Alexandra is a blacksmith who has started her own business forging metal into useable art for the home and workspace. The Backcountry Blacksmith, offers a line of hand-forged ironwork using recycled and upcycled steel.
“I create lasting products that have minimal waste or carbon footprint in terms of production. Hand-forged ironworks are made from recycled materials. They introduce into one’s daily life a reminder of the outside world. Each item is a just a small artful step to making a difference in how we impact the earth. Like the Ocean River Institute, I believe that each one of us can help every day in terms of preserving, protecting and caring for the great outdoors by making the choice to be more responsible at home, at work, really just in our own individual spheres of life. ORI exemplifies the principle that each person can actively make a difference every day to better this beautiful blue planet we live on. Here at The Backcountry Blacksmith we try to do the same.”
The Backcountry Blacksmith’s forge is in the West Elk Mountains outside of Crawford, Colorado. See what Alexandra means and view her hand-forged ironwork at www.backcountryblacksmith.com.
The Ocean River Institute’s mission is to foster greater personal involvement in conservation, environmental monitoring, and protecting ecosystems by facilitating the grassroots efforts of groups working at local and regional levels.
